I am a theatre-maker, working with care and craft to make live performances that promote empathy and connection. I am an experienced Director and Assistant/Associate, working with a range of organisations as well as making my own work. I work regularly in new writing, supporting writers to develop their stories and get them onto the stage, but I'll always be a fan of the classics, having grown up in Shakespeare's hometown.
I love combining art forms, which has recently included opera and dance-theatre. My work is proudly multi-disciplinary and the boundaries between various styles are becoming increasingly blurred, which opens up so many possibilities. I have a movement background, and work as a Choreographer and Movement Director. This wide range of experience is exemplary of my collaborative approach to theatre-making.
Thanks to a grant from Arts Council England, I have been developing my writing practice, particularly in opera libretto. The epic scale of storytelling in this genre appeals greatly. I had been writing for fringe and community stages for many years and take inspiration from the team around me.
Subjects which often crop up in my work include comedy and joy, historical themes, rural communities, and place as a facet of identity.
