Always An Artist - Week 26

Halfway through the year

Always An Artist - Week 26

I've been deliberately making time for art for six months now and blogging consistently alongside that. I'm taking a moment to reflect on the process.

I can confidently say that "Always An Artist" has been a fantastic project for me. It's made creativity a habit, which is necessary in order to sustain a career. It has also made me intentional about the art I want to make and focussed my energy. I think the blogging has also helped with the intention because it has built a space for reflection into my working week.

I also want to keep things realistic by acknowledging that I've had a bit of a slump this week. I have made some small steps forward with my libretto translation tasks and progress is progress, but I can also feel the wall in my mind. I want to kick back into gear this week and I've got some accountability checks coming to keep things on track.

I'm curious to see how "Always An Artist" will evolve in the second half of the year. My summer has less structure than my term time work, and so will it be easier or harder to create when I'm not slotting it in between other activities? When we reach the winter, I will most likely be working in a backstage panto role which is a very intense contract. Will I have the time or energy for creating then? Will it feel okay if the answer is no? I'll have to wait and see.
