Always An Artist - Week 34
Blue sky thinking, a pun

It's been a week of applications, which can be a bit dry. However, I deliberately left myself a full week for this work, because of the applications was my submission for the RTST Sir Peter Hall Director Award. Directing awards take a serious amount of work but the organisations do their best to create tiers of meaningful engagement: long list feedback, short list workshops, and a full production for the winner.
Another thing I will say in praise of RTST is that the application was extremely clear. Each question had additional information explaining what the question was getting at, which helped to focus my thinking. It might sound silly, but I appreciated it massively because it took me until this year to work out that being asked to explain your vision doesn't involve any visual components.
I'm logging this application as a "creative task" because the process requires you to pitch a full concept for a production. I spent time unpicking the themes, imagining the design elements and researching a dream team cast and crew.
I'm excited about my concept, and I really love the play I selected (another bonus is total freedom to pick the text). If I don't win the award, I'll share my vision here. If I do win the award, I'll share my vision onstage in 2026.
