The rehearsals for How To Be A Romantic have been staggered across the last few months in order to match everyone's schedules - the team is booked and busy!
This week, we had a lovely couple of days bringing things to life. Up to this point, we had been working on character development and delivery of text as top priorities. Once that groundwork is laid properly, everything flows so much better.
We spent a full day breaking down each scene and song, so that everything led nicely into the next piece and the emotional beats were really clear. I love going into this level of detail, but I enjoy it best when we can do it as we did on our feet and actually find it in the moment. It tends to align better that way, I find.
Then we were joined by our fabulous repetiteur, Phoebe, for a stagger through. It went much more smoothly than "stagger" implies, but I think that psychologically, calling the run a pessimistic name takes away the pressure to be perfect. After the stagger, I really feel like we've got something special.
On a sillier note, my bag is getting heavier and heavier with the all the specific books referenced in the script. It was up to 12 on last count!
